A Quality PC Tower – More Benefit Than You Would Think

Quality of the PC tower is more important than many people would think. They see the computer tower as the part of their desktop base unit as a piece of metal or plastic that keeps their computer parts together and they never give a second thought to picking a good one. Well, they should, for several reasons.
Assembly quality is very important for those who like to pick and match their own components and those who like to fumble around inside the computer case. While not all cheap cases are like this, I have run into several low quality ones – without brands mentioned – that were outright dangerous to work with. If you’ve ever cut yourself with a razor you will know that a cut of this kind is so deep and fast you don’t even notice at first.
If you focus on assembling the computer right, chances are that you will not even spot it until you see the drops of blood all around inside the case. These low quality cases often have unfinished edges that cut fast and deep and unless you use gardener gloves you cant avoid one or two of them. When I was working at a computer shop I always had several of these wounds at any time, do yourself a favor and pick a good case.
Another point these cases tend to fail on is the quality of materials used. Whenever I see one of those tincan-like 0.3 mm thick metal cases I cringe and can’t help but think how they will wobble around as soon as there is a stronger fan installed. By all means try to avoid these tin-like cases, if you have some extra money, definitely pick one made if stainless steel or aluminum, you will not be disappointed and it will serve you for many years and configurations to come.
Sign of a good case apart of these features is the care with which they’re designed. You won’t see little hinges and trap doors for USB connectivity on any of the better cases. They just can’t allow these bits to fall off two weeks after you have purchased the product. It is not only harmful to their reputation but they definitely want to keep the warranty case replacements to the minimum.
Unique to top quality towers is the fact that they often use some protective layer on their cases. Maybe they use native colored material or protective paint, but the point is the fend off small scratches and bumps the case may suffer on the long run. You are more likely to go to a LAN party with a good case than a bad one, and during transportation it is more prone to damage, right?
When choosing a case of this quality, you should be aware of the fact that these are not sold for under $30. You won’t really find any good one with the power supply installed under $100 either. If you are at all serious at getting a good case to have this component in your computer taken good care of, you should take a look at what Lian Li, Chieftec, Casetec and Zalman offers, and by taking a look at their sites you will be able to find out the typical price too.
Choosing a good case is not only an option but mandatory for those who want to have the ultimate PC experience. People who spend $599 on just the video card should not settle with a bad PC tower that keeps squeaking, cuts the fingers and is generally an unpleasant experience to look at.
